Free Sight Words Download

"Sight words" typically refers to a set of around 100 words that keeps reappearing on almost any page of text.

Sight words, often also called high frequency sight words, are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorise as a whole by sight, so that they can automatically recognise these words in print within three seconds without having to use any strategies to decode.

Generally, there will be some focus on these words during a child's first year of primary school. The way in which these are taught may vary between schools and even the words can differ slightly!

Please note, these words may vary between schools, and each school will have their own curriculum. Some schools may not focus on sight words, whereas other schools will. I personally found during Evie's first year of school, they worked through these words A LOT.

Of course children will learn these at their own pace, and I strongly believe that children should be allowed to do so. This free download is to be used at your own discretion. Of course, with any post that goes on social media there are people commenting that 'kids should be kids' etc etc. I am not suggesting otherwise. This list is simply to offer you a FREE learning activity that you can use if you wish :)

Regardless, if you want to give your child a head start, familiarise them with this list of words.
